Belinda Writes: Creative Reflections for a Calmer Mind
Hi, I’m Belinda, a fully qualified Art Psychotherapist based in Edinburgh. I’m a registered member of BAAT (British Association of Art Therapists), BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists), and HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council).
Originally from the Shetland Islands, I spent nearly a decade as a primary school teacher before retraining as an art therapist. I have extensive experience supporting children and young people, including those with additional support needs such as autism, ADHD and dyslexia. I’ve also worked with adults with disabilities and volunteered for ChildLine.
Today, I run my own art therapy practice from a welcoming space on Frederick Street in central Edinburgh. I also work with clients online, in school, and offer freelance art therapy sessions to organisations and the families they support.
Supporting mental wellbeing is at the heart of everything I do. I’m the author of Losing Papa, Finding Hope, a children’s book about cancer-related bereavement, written from my own experience of losing a parent at a young age. Proceeds help fund cancer research. I’ve also published a digital story, Angry Joel - The Boy Who Was Hurt, exploring trauma-informed themes. (Search the title on YouTube to watch.)
On this blog, I’ll be sharing creative tools, tips, and strategies to support emotional wellbeing. Whether you’re a parent looking for ways to help your child with anxiety or someone seeking gentle, creative ways to care for your own mental health, you’re in the right place.

Thanks for being here 😊
